- Keep thinking about potential ideas for your 60 second videos. We will do some planning at our next meeting.
- Do you already realize that there is some area of biology that you should know better? That could make a great topic for your presentation later this semester.
- You can be scouting out a topic for your long-form blog post on some article from the primary literature. For some ideas on what this writing can be like, check out the posts at Not Exactly Rocket Science, an outstanding science blog by Ed Yong. Or you can model your post after the review articles found in journals like Nature. Check out this recent review from Nature's News and Views section on how mosquitos smell their human hosts (can be viewed on the AU network).
- Read chapter 4 in Don't Be Such a Scientist and be ready to discuss it in class when we get back.
- Look over the posts written so far by your colleagues for this class this semester, and take note of what you think are the best two. Leave a comment to this post naming what you think are the best two posts, or if you prefer, email your nominations to me. And don't forget to keep commenting on each other's posts.

I assume we can't use any posts from other members of our groups for this, otherwise Nichole's post on the water striders would be on my list. My other two favorite posts so far were "The wonders of caves" on the blog The difference between ignorance and apathy, and "Crack is whack, but could redbull really give you wings?" on Thirsty Pandas.

ReplyDeleteMy favorites are Kelly's "Heil....?" and Jessica's "What the Frisch?" They both have a great mix of personality and information.
ReplyDeleteYou can nominate posts from your blog team members. Not a problem. Now, nominating your own posts might be a little tacky.
ReplyDeleteI think my two favorite posts were Kelly's "Heil.." post along with Deanna's "Night Owl Syndrome" post. Both presented interesting information while still allowing personality and humor to come through which made the articles entertaining to read.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Trish's "Zombies do exist!" and Nichole's "Nice guys finish last". Again, I think I enjoyed these because they mix humor with relevant information, something I strive to do in most of my posts.
ReplyDeleteI like Jackie's post because I like Southpark too. Jackie's was interesting because it related to a show I watched while bringing up an important issue that is often overlooked. I also like JP's post about the polar bears. My high school mascot was a polar bear and I've been obsessed ever since. I think it is extremely fascinating that polar bears are transparent.
ReplyDeleteI liked Jackie's post "The Wonders of Caves" because over spring break I we drove through Kentucky past Mammoth Cave and I just think that it is something really cool and different. Plus, I think that spelunking would be a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED Trish's "Zombies DO exist." For like two weeks straight I was hooked on movies like 28 days later and other virus-zombie flicks. I also loved Jackie's first post, "Whale (and other) Wars." It has basically the three most important things in my life: science, south park and Lady Gaga.
ReplyDeleteSorry I forgot to comment here, but I looked at the overall list and I pretty much can say that there isn't one on the list that wasn't enjoyable. But my favorites were Trish's Zombies DO exist and I too enjoyed Jackie's Whale Wars post.
